Dorian Minus
Composition and installation
Dorian Minus is a multimedia installation consisting of vibraphone bars, video, and sound.
The work is situated around the musical dorian mode, a scale of notes beginning on the second scale degree in a major scale. The nine vibraphone bars hanging exist as a physical representation of a full octave of the scale, with an additional two notes in the upper octave, while missing the note C in the lower octave.
A musical composition creates both sound and video. Sound from the composition plays in loudspeakers, while video is created from the CRT monitor’s response to the audio signal flowing into its video input. The hanging vibraphone bars reflect the basis of the composition, which uses pre-recorded vibraphone samples in a random process.
The work is an attempt to visualize music, through video and sculpture, while reflecting its ambiguities.

for clarinet, violin, vibraphone, electric guitar, cello, and synthesizer
Forests are defining geographical landmarks that have emotional, spiritual, and physical significance for humans. This music explores the loss of forests through musical interpretation of forest environments, loss of homeland, and the emotional belonging of people.
What does it mean to close a forest? Who has the ability to close a forest? Who does the forest belong to? How can a forest be closed?
Performed live on December 11, 2018 at CCS Bard Hessel Museum by Eva Grunblatt, Maeve Schallert, Kwami Winfield, Nathan Matsubara, Jackie Slack, and Telo Hoy
